About Me
Klaus Weddig was a stage and lighting assistant at the theater during his photography studies. This was followed by assisting various well-known photographers with a focus on people and automotive photography. Since 1990 he has been working and living as a freelance photographer in Frankfurt am Main.
People and portrait photography is only one focus for Klaus Weddig, but is not obligatory. Whether reportage, landscapes or portraits, the decisive factor is that a project offers creative freedom for implementation. In the same way, it makes no difference to him whether celebrities or "completely normal" employees of companies stand in front of the camera. In the end, the result will be a close, personal portrait.
His clients include the German National Football Team, Rheingau Music Festival, Siemens, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, BNP Parisbas, Goldpfeil, Lottusse, Lloyd Shoes, ZDF, 3sat, Sony Music, ZDFkultur, various musicians and artists and many more.
In 2001 he began his long-term project Polascapes, represented by LUMAS and others. Artistic collaborations followed, among others with Christopher Kondek and Christiane Kühl for the photo and video installation "SHOOT OUT" commissioned by Urbane Künste Ruhr and Schauspielhaus Bochum. The premiere took place as part of the Detroit Project "This is not Detroit". Further presentations followed: e.g. on the occasion of Akira Takayama's "Evacuate" feat. Mousonturm Frankfurt, at HAU, Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin and Schauspiel Leipzig.
He has been a resident at Atelierfrankfurt since 2014. For his work, he has received awards from the German Designer Club and grants from the Hessian Cultural Foundation and the VG Bildkunst, among others, e.g. for his photo series "INSTANT KARMA", which was presented in an extensive exhibition in June 2022.
